About the event
Cheers!!! On Monday, December 7th, join Death over Drafts Crafter: Jess Dukes with Organizing Death and co-crafter Joshua Baker at Athentic Brewing.
Topic: Present in Absence - Death Photography
Joshua Baker is a photographer and psychology student with a strong interest in philosophy, memory, perception, and the ways photographs shape our understanding of human experience.
In Present in Absence, he will explore death photography, funeral slideshows, postmortem portraits, memorial practices, and the emerging use of AI to recreate the dead. The conversation will consider how photographs help us mourn, how a life becomes edited into a visual story, and whether an image can preserve a relationship without beginning to replace the person being remembered. The presentation will also invite discussion about consent, dignity, cultural traditions, and the complicated boundary between remembrance and exploitation.
Death over Drafts is a casual event about all things death and dying. We will be brewing…
